Sodium Questions (6 questions)
  • Q. I have high blood pressure and have started a weightloss program with LA weightloss. I have reduced my blood pressure to a normal number suce as 118/62. I am allowed your meals but they have a lot of sodium in them. Are there any meals that have lower sodium that you would suggest I eat?
A.The sodium amounts in Lean Cuisine entrees range from 340-700 mg. You can search under Products and Product Search> Browse by Nutrition for those with the lowest amounts of sodium.
  • Q. I love the LEAN CUISINE® Skillet SensationsTM but am concerned about the amount of sodium. Does the amount of sodium in these products surpass daily standards?
A.LEAN CUISINE® products are developed using the USDA Dietary Guidelines. These guidelines include a sodium intake of 2400 mg per day. Unless you eat bacon and sausage for breakfast, your breakfast cereal and toast do not contain much sodium. We take the 2400 mg sodium and divide it into 2 meals thus approx. 1200 mg sodium per meal is realistic. We suggest you eat a salad and a dinner roll and drink a glass of milk with your LEAN CUISINE® meal which is feasible when you target 1200mg Na per meal.
  • Q. How much sodium should I consume?
A.The average intake in the United States is between 4,000 and 5,000 milligrams of sodium per day. The Daily Reference Value is 2400 mg sodium per day. Each person’s need for sodium differs, it is recommended for healthy individuals to consume a diet with moderate levels of sodium. If you have health concerns, I suggest you see a registered dietitian who can customize your diet according to your individual needs.
  • Q. How much sodium does a teaspoon of salt have?
A.Table salt consists of sodium and chloride. A teaspoon of table salt has 2300 mg of sodium. Many people think of sodium as a non-nutritious dietary element, but sodium is an essential nutrient, a mineral that the body cannot store or manufacture by itself. Sodium is needed by the body for proper functioning of nerves and muscles and regulates blood pressure and blood volume.
  • Q. Frozen foods seem to contain high levels of sodium, are they healthy for me?
A.LEAN CUISINE® products are developed using USDA Dietary Guidelines, which include a sodium intake of 2400 mg per day. Unless you eat bacon and sausage for breakfast, your breakfast cereal and toast do not contain much sodium. The 2400 mg sodium divided into 2 meals gives approximately 1200 mg of sodium per meal. We suggest you eat a salad and a dinner roll and drink a glass of milk with your LEAN CUISINE® meal which is a feasible target for 1200mg sodium per meal.
